DesignUp Newsletter 🚀 Issue #142 > 📣 📣 Leadership Journeys for you, Algorithms for Strategic Laziness, Eatsplorations, Simulation Sketchbook + more!

So much went on last week - Microsoft vs Google in the Search Engine wars, layoffs, a failure of imagination in UX, and also, a huge new rocket system 🚀

Meanwhile, in this edition, Krish Ashok’s ‘Algorithms For Strategic Laziness will have you in splits! We are all still talking about AI - is it a feature, or is it like Play-Doh? Exploring the boundaries, we stumbled upon Simulation Sketchbook, an online exhibition which suggests that, technology is not magic being created in Silicon Valley, but like art, it is made through a series of sketches and explorations. This reminded us of the work of Bill Buxton - and the 4 different types of prototypes that we use in our design projects.

And finally, announcing DesignUp School’s Leadership Series - to be held in March in Bangalore. Get details below!

📣 DesignUp.School’s Leadership Series starts in 3 weeks!

The Leadership Series starts with two fundamental immersive Masterclasses, and two distinctive but interconnected Leadership journeys - one inside and one to building bridges and partnerships outside: Managing Strategic Partnerships by Kathleen Schroeter, and Leading Mindfully by Jay Dutta. The 2 x one-day Masterclass also has a networking dinner with Design Leaders. These classes are limited to 25 seats and with 3 weeks to go, they're filling up fast! He cooks, he blogs, he produces his own music, and he's a global tech leader…but how does he manage to find the time to do all these things? The answer lies in strategic laziness! At #DesignUp2022, Krish Ashok talks about 'Algorithms For Strategic Laziness' and how this concept can be used in various aspects of life. He explains how algorithms can be used to be more creative and how they can help structure and simplify a task.

🧰 Your Toolkit

When Bill Buxton talks about “sketches” you know he is not referring to drawings. In the video clip below, he explains the difference between a sketch and a prototype, and how “sketching is a process, a feedback loop to gain new knowledge.”

This image from his book Sketching User Experiences illustrates how we can use sketching to explore in a structured manner:
