DesignUp 🚀 Issue #69 > DesignUp Updates, Deep Work, Empathy, Khoi, Monet was here...

It's been a busy week ⏳as we countdown to opening the registration 🥁tomorrow, Monday July 2nd, at 8pm India time 🥁It's a lineUp of speakers and topics that I would love to hear and would want to share with you! And we might have more women than men this year 🙌 We are only revealing a few names for now, so stay tuned 😎Before I share my fav reads, here's 4 DesignUp Updates 📣

Juggling between my many commitments - I am taking time out for this book - a highly recommended read: Deep Work. Author and professor Cal Newport "flips the narrative on impact in a connected age. Instead of arguing distraction is bad, he instead celebrates the power of its opposite". Given my time stretch (and the fact I agree with Prof Newport), I have skimmed through part one where he "makes the case that in almost any profession, cultivating a deep work ethic will produce massive benefits". But don't miss the "rigorous training regimen, presented as a series of four "rules," for transforming your mind and habits to support this skill."

As a companion to the above book—read this piece! It can be a very verbose - but wether you're a maker or a Manager or somewhere in the middle, this one's for you. Remember Arnold Bennett’s words: “You have to live on this 24 hours of time. Out of it you have to spin health, pleasure, money, content, respect and the evolution of your immortal soul. Its right use … is a matter of the highest urgency.”

If Empathy did't exist - it should have been invented. And invented it was: "this conception of empathy is a little more than a century old and originated in art: It only entered the modern lexicon in the early twentieth century". Here's the fascinating back story!

Talk: Khoi Vinh - Thinking & Writing About Design

"Bias in AI will happen unless it’s built from the start with inclusion in mind. The most critical step in creating inclusive AI is to recognise where and how bias infects the system." So how do we exclude, reduce, eliminate bias? Read on...

And, if you're looking for any distraction - make it this: Inspired by the National Gallery’s landmark show ‘The Credit Suisse Exhibition: Monet & Architecture’
