DesignUp 🚀 Issue #64 > Updates, Call for Speakers, Attention Hacking Consequences, Alan Cooper
From updates to recommended reads, there's a lot of diverse things in this issue. Plus the call for DesignUp 2018 - Talks & Workshops is now open...
Updates...

DesignUp's 1st event of 2018 turned out to be extra special - informal, highly interactive, lots of happy faces, and at the centre of it: a man whose books & ideas the audience had grown up reading. The talk was followed by a series of questions, discussions—with Alan lobbing some questions back to the audience for reflection. Post dinner snaking queues for selfies and book signing request went on till late in the night. Here's an album from the evening...
IxDA Bangalore chapter relaunched with 2 new Local Leaders - can't think of a better start. Here's another opportunity to come together as the community, and you can get started by visiting the IxDA Bangalore community page...
Save the date (we're back in 2018)
Recommended reads...
Taking off from the broad themes we explored with Alan, here are three highly relevant pieces focusing on the currency of attention, on consequences—accidental, invisible and manipulative. And the evolving role and nature of practice as Designers...

This isn't the most comfortable thing you'll read - but I highly recommend it. You may have read it (or part of it already), and taken a personal stand. Which is great, after all opinions can be wisdom in the making (if you're willing to debate, question and put it test). Does this resonate with Design in India—
"There’s no longer room in Silicon Valley to ask why. Designers are tasked with moving fast and breaking things. “How” has become more important than “why.” How fast can we make this? How can we grab the most market share? How can we beat our competitors to market?"
Broad in it's scope and scale - this is recommended reading for people who create and introduce new things into this world:
"These are the metrics internet companies follow very closely to measure the success of their products. And there’s only one thing they have in common: they’re just a proxy for attention stealing."
Be heard...

This year we are back with the 3rd Edition (Oct 26-27) and our foundational theme remains Design-In-tech and Design-For-Tech—making Tech & Businesses more human and humane, by Design.
Some of the tracks we want to focus on in 2018: Design Systems, Design For Good, FrontEnd Design, Design & Dev. This is your chance to present to peers, industry leaders, influencers and new talent. We look forward to your proposal.
We want a great balance of pragmatic and philosophical—tools and techniques, actionable takeaways, deep insights, 'Hows' and the 'Whys'. You could present case studies, learnings or insights—and practical takeaways—minus overtly presenting and placing your brand or organisation at the centre of the talk. Look forward to your proposal!
Until next week,
