DesignUp 🚀 Issue #55 > Ux & Conscience, Nostalgia, Portfolio Tips & Not Finding Fame

It's the week of India's tryst with festivals and holidays! Hope you had a wonderful time and a rejuvenating holiday weekend 🔔  #Inktober2017 has just started and it's a last few days to UxNow in NewDelhi!

📣  Also delighted to announce the DesignUp Pre-event on Tue, Oct 10 in Bangalore. The last of the pre-events, this one is exactly 30 days away from the DesignUp Conference on Nov 10-11.

Here's an assorted mix of some 'goodness', practical tips and a longish read on why not being famous isn't all that terrible...

"We’re beginning to reckon with the fact that all our addictive apps may be coming at a huge social cost" and that we may be working for our phone (and not the other way around) or that we may be the product: our data, our mind-share, our attention is on sale. But is 2017 the year when we start to deal with the dark patterns that have become de rigueur?

As the Chief Designer of Behance, Matias Corea has reviewed thousands of creative portfolios on the web. Here he has six practical and time-tested skills to create a stand-out portfolio online!

Wondered what the "typo of the mind" is, or the science behind infectious behaviours and viral emotions? These are four highly recommended books about the mechanics of the mind, decision making and more!

Ryan Hoover, co-creator of Product Hunt describes 'how nostalgia is used to drive attention and build an engaging product'. With plenty of examples it's a walk down memory lane...

"Most young adults won’t achieve the idealistic goals they’ve set for themselves. They won’t become the next Mark Zuckerberg. But does that mean their lives will lack significance and worth?"
