DesignUp 🚀 The 50th Issue
DesignUp Newsletter is 50!
Not in years but by number of issues. It all started with 29 subscribers (mostly from SAIF Partners) as the DesignForStartups Newsletter to Design@SAIF to its current avataar.
Later today 💥 we'll be sharing DesignUp Conference updates at the pre-event in Bangalore (+short talks and a workshop) 🥁 Pre-event registrations are oversubscribed and closed—but don't miss out on the-super-early-bird-Conference tickets 🐣 🎟 🐣 on sale tonight from 9:30pm! ⏰ And hope to see you at the event this evening, I am told there are Banana Cakes 🍰 besides Design goodness!

To mark the 50th issue, I looked back at the 5 links with the highest click rates (some of my predicted favourites aren't there). The 5th is a special mention: an issue with collectively the highest clicks/shares. Note it's an unordered list. Here goes...
From Issue #45 which deep-dived into heady psychology stuff... This one is a quick read with examples. Includes Cognitive Overload, Restroff Effect and, unsurprisingly, loads of reference to Gestalt principles!

From Issue #27: If this question was on your mind—then this is the place to hear it, from Tim Brown.
From Issue #28: My attempt at capturing the stumbling blocks of designs in startups. I run into these often and this (a longish read) is a short checklist on how these mistakes can be spotted and avoided

From Issue #6: Don’t get daunted by the words “object-oriented, programming-inspired approach”. Plod through this bunch of actionable ideas for people who design UI (or are thinking of doing so). And if you’re starting out - these may be a good set of habits to acquire!
Issue 14 had one of the highest share rate despite the fact that it was the first issue where open rates dropped close to 50% (there were just 308 subscribers then). Each curated link got fairly high click-throughs on average. The issue showcased aggregators and curators of note on the wide world of web—from patterns and UI motion to marketing sites and more! Still pretty useful for those who came in late!
Until next week (and new updates)
