Design@SAIF - Issue #7

A new issue from @SAIFpartners: articles, thought-pieces and case studies to PowerUp UX+Product in your Startup/business. Featuring Ten commandments, UX battles and kitschy sweaters!

#UX #CaseStudy | Every site/app has some element of Self-service in it. It can either provide intuitive control or cause a wide range of frustrations. The UK Government Digital Services group beat worthy competitors from the private sector to claim the 2013 Design of the Year Award for its Gov.uk site - relying heavily on giving users' control. And they went on to create, what PM Cameron termed - "the modern relationship between the public and government". A great read, if self serve is in focus for you.

#UX #Research | UserZoom runs these interesting "Battles" - benchmarking studies where one site is compared vs another in the same category and a verdict is given along several dimensions. Its not only interesting research methodology but analysis and insights into how people perceive things. This Battle is between online tax solutions TaxAct and TaxSlayer...

#Design #Philosophy | Long long before there was Apple and Jonny Ive, there was Dieter Rams - the Warren Buffet of Product Design, whose creations continue to influence products (and "inspire") many many decades later.Even though I am not a fan of the subjective terms like "Good/Bad Design", Rams' 10 commandments of Good Design (this link) are compelling and worthy of a bookmark. Adding my favourite Dieter Ram's quoteβ€” "Indifference towards people and the reality in which they live is actually the one and only cardinal sin in design".

#CaseStudy | Featuring kitschy design, awesome SEO and deep insights into "people and the reality in which they live".

Until next week,@JDallcaps @SAIFpartners
