Design@SAIF - Issue #18

This is an eclectic issue: from AI to Playbooks and Handbooks - for products and people. Can't say this issue has a lot of 'actionables' but it's certainly mind-food to fuel thoughtful action.

A long but thoughtful read on the role of process in product development. Lax argues for the need to "have a set of plays we can go to so we can build better products smarter and faster."

On the similar lines, here's the Valve Employee Handbook celebrating people in Products. Valve works across Gaming - from titles to platforms and tech. The self-funded company apparently has "more profits per employee than Google and Apple". Their mission is to "create a place ... designed to foster greatness. A place where incredibly talented individuals are empowered to put their best work into the hands of millions of people, with very little in their way." And this is their quirky book.

AI continues to occupy a lot more of our conversations and imagination - what does that mean for Designers? "Historically, designers could only make decisions that were good for the masses some of the time, rather than best for individuals all of the time. Artificial intelligence changes that."
