Design@SAIF - Issue #11

Last week has been dominated by Brexit, Rexit and WWDC16 though closer home, we have been discussing the X factor: UX patterns, IX guidelines and interesting new startups I keep meeting at The Office Hours.Last week, we also onboarded a brand new bunch of subscribers. Between this issue and the last, its a 58% rise. A big welcome to you, the real people behind the temporal stats. Plus, we have a brand new section for you—Design Events (and workshops), from both far and near.

A wonderful inspiration to start off your week: "If an iPod weighs the same as a hamster, how much would the equivalent capacity in vinyl weigh?" Few visualisations are as powerful as this one. And there's very little to read...

"...Maintaining urban environments to prevent small crimes such as vandalism or public drinking will help to create an atmosphere of order. And most importantly, will prevent more serious crimes to happen." So what does that have to do with Design and Product Development? Therein lies an interesting tale.

Many of you I meet with, already know that I fuss around a bit much about on-boarding, or the first time walkthrough of your product or service. This fascinating annotated presentation of Apple Music's (late 2015) onboarding shows how it can be a distraction or an endearing introduction. Time to audit your own onboarding?

"The art of building new products is an exercise in navigating ambiguity. How do you know if you're on track?" Julie Zhao, Facebook's Product Design Director talks about the missing playbook for perfect products and also offers some recipes. Video from TNW Europe 2016 ~23 Mins.
